613_RECRUITMENT

Repurposing and invigoration are the keys to this project. The building\'s historic uses were, among other things, a clothing factory and printing house are now embedded in the new offices. As the existing building interior was carefully disassembled, materials were salvaged, discoveries were made and volumes revealed.

This undressing of the project was an integral element in the design process. Oregon and Red Baltic Pine timber members were salvaged and reused in the joinery and furniture. Fluted glass panels and doors complete with original hardware were saved and reused in new and exciting ways, all the while treated with humour and reverence, maintaining their warmth as well as their legacy in the structure.
